"Walter! Walter!" was
named the grand prize winner of the Honolulu Magazine Fiction Contest
for 2002. Walter is a good but unremarkable man who suddenly does
a most remarkable thing. He begins to live on top of his house.
His wife and children, who continue to live inside the house like
regular people, react to this odd behavior, as do his neighbors.
Set in my own neighborhood of Kapahulu, not far from Diamond Head
and Waikiki, on the island of Oahu. Read
the story!
"Speedy Delivery" was
named a runnerup in the Honolulu Magazine Fiction Contest for 2001.
It tells the tale of a romantic mailman, a long-legged waitress/painter,
and a waiter/writer who is looking for stories. Set in Kapahulu
and Waikiki.
"Mutant Killer Shrimp of the Ala Wai"
received an honorable mention in the Honolulu Magazine
Fiction Contest for 2004. This tale recounts the strange, true events
involving oxymoronic giant shrimp discovered in the Ala Wai Canal
in 2003, and some other fanciful events way too terrifying to relate
here. Dan Rather and Jade Moon play key roles in this thriller.
Set in Waikiki, on the dangerous banks of the Ala Wai, where it
all happened.
