Strong
Currents brings together more than two dozen stories
by contemporary Hawai'i writers, featuring stories by Elizabeth
Engstrom, Jill Marie Landis, Laureen Kwock, and a host of others.
Published by the Aloha Chapter
of the Romance Writers of America, which is donating
net proceeds to Hawai'i Literacy, Inc.
Available from amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.
Includes my short story "Speedy Delivery,"
which was named a runnerup in the Honolulu Magazine Fiction
Contest for 2001. It tells the tale of a romantic mailman, a long-legged
waitress/painter, and a waiter/writer who is looking for stories.
Set in Kapahulu and Waikiki.
Also includes my poem "Reptiles at
5 a.m.," about rising early to write. It's a sacred
hour for me, when the house is quiet and I watch my characters stumble
along from beginning to middle to end. Writing poems, for me, is
a secret guilty pleasure. I'm glad nobody's watching when I do it.
